Processing of Personal Data and Data Protection at the Finnish Red Cross

The foundation of all activities of the Finnish Red Cross is the trust placed in the organization by aid recipients, volunteers, partners, and supporters. Protecting privacy is of utmost importance to us in maintaining that trust.

We collect, store, and process personal data only to the extent necessary for the organization’s operations and in alignment with the humanitarian mandate of the movement. As an organization, we are committed to processing personal data in accordance with laws and regulations, transparently, and with respect for individual privacy. Personal data is not requested or used for purposes that conflict with the objectives and principles of the Red Cross as defined in the Finnish Red Cross Act and Decree.

On this page, you will find the Finnish Red Cross’s data protection policy, principles of personal data processing, and privacy statements.

  • We communicate openly about our data processing practices

  • We process personal data confidentially and carefully

  • We do not retain personal data unnecessarily

  • In case of disruptions or exceptional situations, we may use personal data to share information, communicate needs for assistance, and invite participation

  • We utilize profiling and machine learning methods to refine personal data in order to improve our operations

  • We use anonymized and/or synthesized personal data as part of research and/or volunteer collaboration to develop our activities

  • Within the organization, we share data when necessary between the central office, district offices, local branches, and institutions

  • We do not disclose personal data to external parties except in exceptional cases assessed individually

  • Personal data of vulnerable individuals (e.g., elderly, minors, victims of persecution) is processed with special care in separate systems
