The Red Cross is providing aid in Nepal

Emergency funding is being provided from the International Red Cross Fund to support the Nepal Red Cross Society’s aid work, which is helping people affected by severe flash floods in northern Nepal.
The Disaster Relief Fund (DREF) of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is providing nearly one million Swiss francs (approximately 1.06 million euros) of emergency funding to support the Nepal Red Cross Society in responding to the most urgent needs, while field teams assess the extent of the damage.
Since 2022, the Finnish Red Cross has supported aid work with a total of 3.5 million euros through DREF. In 2025, the Finnish Red Cross contributed one million euros to the fund from its own Disaster Relief Fund. This year, it has contributed 750,000 euros so far.
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland has allocated three million euros in humanitarian funding to the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. With the help of the money already collected in the fund, the efforts of local aid workers can be supported quickly when funds are needed to organise emergency aid on short notice.
In collaboration with the International Red Cross, the Finnish Red Cross is also developing proactive measures and supporting National Societies in preparing for increasing and extreme weather events.
The Finnish Red Cross is monitoring the situation closely and stands ready to send further aid.
Floods have caused widespread destruction in northern Nepal

Devastating floods struck northern Nepal on 26 August.
“As well as homes and power stations, the floods have destroyed numerous bridges and roads, making it difficult to reach the communities worst affected and to assess the extent of the damage. The most important thing at this initial stage is to continue search and rescue operations, provide first aid quickly to the injured, offer emergency accommodation to those who have lost their homes, ensure access to safe drinking water and other essential basic supplies and re-establish contact with communities that have been cut off,” says Head of International Emergency Operations Unit Marko Korhonen from the Finnish Red Cross.
