Finnish Red Cross helps in Burundi, Somalia and Tajikistan

The Finnish Red Cross allocates funds raised in the Red Nose Day campaign to community-based programmes in Burundi, Somalia and Tajikistan.

The objective of the programme in Burundi is to improve child health, promote children's participation in education, and enhance the sexual and reproductive health of youngsters.

The objective of the progamme in Somalia is to support basic healthcare in Somaliland and Puntland. The clinics improve the accessibility of basic healthcare services and the health status of target communities in remote areas, with a particular focus on promoting maternal and child health. The clinics also provide supplementary feeding for malnourished children.

The objective of the programme in Tajikistan is for children to contract fewer contagious diseases, such as diarrhoea. Volunteers and teachers are trained to provide health and hygiene information in mountain communities, and the programme will later involve building water systems and toilets to supply clean water and improve hygiene.

In addition to the Red Cross, the Red Nose Day campaign involves eight other reliable organisations. The funds raised in the Red Nose Day campaign are used to support long-term development co-operation in Africa, Asia and South America.

The organisations involved in the campaign use Red Nose Day donations to promote the schooling, safety, health and nourishment of children in the most vulnerable position.
