The typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines a week ago and left devastation in its wake. Your help is needed now!

What do you get for the money?
  • 4€ = mosquito netting
  • €5 = a blanket for somebody who has lost their home
  • €10 = a tarpaulin
  • €12 = a hygiene pack for 3 months for a family of 5
  • €300 = a tent for five people

More than two million people are in need of humanitarian aid. There is an enormous and urgent need of basics in the Philippines: food, clean water, shelter, medicines and first aid.

The collection in aid of the victims of the typhoon victims in the Philippines began earlier in the week but is really gaining momentum this weekend. Here is how you can get involved in the fundraising:

Be a collector

Anyone can help raise funds! Use our events calendar to find the nearest collection centre. Bring along your photo ID, a cheerful mind-set and as much time as you can devote to the appeal. The collection centre will give you a collector’s vest, a collection box and tips for fundraising.

Make a donation in a collection tin

The FRC’s volunteer collectors take part in the Philippines appeal all over Finland this weekend: give your contribution – large or small – into one of the collection tins. You will spot the collectors easily by the red colour of their Red Cross collector’s vests.

Set up an online collection tin

If you don’t want to or aren’t able to be a street collector, you can set up your own online collection without leaving home. Go to www.lahjoituslipas.fi/redcross and follow the directions given. Ask the people in your networks to take part in the collection and use the link you will be given to see how your collection is moving forward. You can share the online collection tin on your website or blog.

In addition to becoming a virtual or real-life collector, you can contribute
