RDRT: Regional Disaster Response Team
RDRT team members are experienced disaster response actors of their national organisation.
A Regional Disaster Response Team (RDRT) or a Regional Intervention Team (RIT) have been included in the regional disaster response system of the Red Cross since 1998.
The RDRT teams aim to strengthen the capacity of regional disaster response. The teams are trained to work as a multinational group of experts in determining the need for aid and in the initial stages of a relief operation. In large disasters and ones that progress slowly, the RDRT team works in cooperation with FACT and the rapid response unit.
An RDRT team arrives at the destination within 24–48 hours. The regional Red Cross and Red Crescent office is responsible for the training, recruitment and mobilisation as well as equipment for the RDRT team.
